Pinterest is a social media platform. We want to ‘know’ you, even as impersonal as that can seem, at times.
There are some who truly don’t care to be identified, and that’s fine – as long as they’re not planning on using Pinterest as a piece of their marketing strategy. But if you have a business, and especially if you’re the face of your business, you NEED to have an image. In today’s social-media frenzy, and age of transparency, no one is going to trust an anonymous “thumbtack” for the profile photo. It reeks of SPAM or a false identity, or even just not comfortable in their own skin – and that uneasiness transfers to prospective clients. Today’s consumer is all about researching who they’re doing business with, what are their interests, what do they do for the community, what are their values, and why should I do business with them. If you’re hiding your own face, you lack credibility in the simplest of forms.
And when you’re the face of the company, selfies just won’t do. Nor do the photos from the club – sometimes what happens at the party should STAY at the party! And the one picture “my friend with a nice camera took 10 years ago when we were on a cruise” – that’s a negatory, too. Hire a professional, and get a quality, branded headshot image. You’re the face of the company, represent it! Macy’s doesn’t hire just anyone off the street to model and show off their clothes. They’re selective, they use professional models, who undergo professional makeup and hair styling, and show up dressed to impress. Don’t sell yourself short by using an image that looks like a passport photo. You want your personality to shine through! You want a dynamic image that will engage a prospect, and show that you’re knowledgable, competent, and you’re “game on!”
Now, if only I knew a great photographer! ;-) (www.blueflairphotography.com - Stefanie) – Shoot me an email (stefanie@blueflairphotography.com) if you’re in the southern California area, and let me know you’re one of my “Pinterest Peeps”.
